Bank of America Application Developer (Cognos) - Global Markets Back Office Technology group in Plano, Texas

Job Description:

Develops, enhances, debugs, supports, maintains and tests software applications that support business units or supporting functions. These application program solutions may involve diverse development platforms, software, hardware, technologies and tools. Participates in the design, development and implementation of complex applications, often using new technologies. May provide technical direction and system architecture for individual initiatives. Serves as a fully seasoned/proficient technical resource. Will not have direct reports but may lead projects and direct activities of a team related to special initiatives or operations. May have responsibility for a project and project budget. May collaborate with external programmers to coordinate delivery of software application. Routine accountability is for technical knowledge and capabilities. Works under minimal supervision, with general guidance from more seasoned consultants. Typically requires 5-7 years of experience.

We are currently seeking candidates to work in the Global Markets Back Office Technology group. The position will be in the Futures & Options and OTC Clearing team

Extensive experience in Business Intelligence tools like Business Objects, Cognos, Actuate, Jasper with 4-5 years experience in Cognos.

•Strong database programming skills with 3-4 experience on Oracle 10/11g

•Communicate with global teams to collect/understand requirements, design and code solutions.

•The ability to work in a team focused environment contributing to an open source platform utilizing an agile methodology such as scrum. Any experience with test driven development, or behavior driven development is desirable.

•Ability to adapt to a dynamic environment with changing priorities with the right attitude and constantly seek opportunities to improve processes and seek efficiencies.

•Senior level troubleshooting, analytical and debugging skills necessary to analyze issues related to database queries and stored procedures

•Provide production support for in-house developed software including after hours support scheduled on a rotating basis with other developers

•Knowledge of various performance optimization and design techniques used in developing Business Intelligence applications

•Good working knowledge of Linux/Unix OS and development tools - JIRA, Subversion

•Possess strong analytical skills; the ability to assess business processes, their potential technology solutions and seek areas for improvement. An understanding of trade workflow and back office operations a plus.

•Cognos 10.1 (knowledge and understanding required)

•Framework Manager-Data Modelling tool (required)

•Cognos Report Studio (required)

•Cognos Analysis Studio (helpful but not a firm requirement)

•UNIX/Linux shell scripts (required)

•Oracle 11g / DB2 Database (some experience in database programming required)

•Investment banking background

Desired Skills:

Previous experience on an IT Application devlopment and support team providing front line technical support to end users responding to issues related to Problem/Incident Management, Release/Deployment, Operational Readiness, Application Monitoring, Development realted to enhancements and other production issues.

Working experience in SDLC processes

Exposure to Banking and financial industry
